Hello, just bought a bearded dragon, having spent years as a snake owner. I know how to look after snakes, but he's a little different, and he HAS begun to scare me...
I was told by the owner that he was going to eat a tub of crickets per day, but half of them are still left...
is he okay?

lee in response to you question, female bearded dragons tend to get on very well, how ever you may find the older female may be less tolerant of the younger ones behaviour. As she will be full grown and the younger one quite small be careful there are no injures caused to the smaller one. Also to all the questions about the beardes not eating the meal worms temp them with some wax worms, there much more appealing how ever dont over feed them on wax worms as they are high in fat content and can be addictive.

Okay it's no really Difficult to under stand whats going on with all of your problems bearded dragons do not need to be misted or put in the bath once a month as they are from dessert regions misting or bathing youre dragon can cause serious problems as there skin absorbs the water and as they cant sweat the moisture stays in the skin and causes skin problems they get all there fluid from veg or a water dish so keep them dry. As for not eating there are a number of things that could be happening, if the tank is not properly heated this really affects your dragon as it's cold blooded therefore can't digest food properly, if theres no heat your dragon could also be impacted this is caused by you're dragon eating sand so see a vet if you think this is happening see a vet ! , if you're dragons is shedding and you wonder why it doesn't want to be handled it's simple shedding it's skin is a stress full time for your dragon or any reptile the last thing it wants is to be touched so just let nature take it's course and your dragon will be fine. If your dragon is opening it's mouth or going black under it's chin when you go to pick its up this is a sign of aggression or discomfort it's normal some dragons are more aggresive then others, just take your time when trying to Handel your dragon as you have to earn it's trust start by placing your hand in the opposite end of it's tank to show it your not a threat soon enough your dragon will come to you be patient, sexing you dragon can be difficult especially if it's not tame males have larger heads compaird to it's body if you can pick up your dragon look close to the base of it's tale if it has a promenent v shape of glands it's female, if no v and balls male. Hope this helps enjoy you bearded dragons. One love!

I have just baught 2 baby beardys, they are 3 weeks old but i have only had them 2 days now, they dont seem to be interested in any food, i have tried crickets, meal worms and salads, and they always stay in the corner of the cold end behind a plant, there have been moments were they have been active and alert and i spotted one go for a cricket but failed, the temperatures are 100 degrees in te basking area and about 85-90 around the hot end. Should i be worried about there behaviour? Many thanks

I Just got my Bearded Dragon on sunday. His (or her, I can't tell yet) name is Pagona, wich is the proper term for a Bearded Dragon, but most people don't know that. He's very calm, and doesn't try to get away from my hands.

I took my dragon to the "exotic" vet the other day. He was trembling and shaking when he tried to walk and his gait was all off. I suggested the book said it could be inner ear infection or bacterial infection; she didn't want to consider that. She was going to blame me for metabolic bone disease, but then she had to admit his bones looked okay in x-ray. Then all his bloods came back okay. I have to force feed him vitamins. He hasn't really eaten much. He does look like he has MBD but his tests are okay. I have not tried to give him a warm bath yet. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and cured it. I've had him five years now. Maybe he's constipated? I'm reading these comments and it sounded like being blocked can cause that?

hi there i got a bearded dragon lastnight it is in very bad condition its tail is mangled and its got a huge lump where its tails starts,we were told its a calcuim defiency which we have just went out and brought the calcuim powder, the thing is she wasnt very well looked after we got her off a 16yrd old boi and her bk was caved in and she was shuffling along and her head wasnt lifting off the ground it was heartbreaking :-(,however the lad we got her from said she didnt eat salad nor did she climb (imnot surprised cos shes got no energy) she looked liked she hadnt been fed for months,we got her home and i gave her sum salad which she wolfed down and she spent like a whole hour in fresh water drinking it,we now put logs in for her to climb and shes climbing ok but will the lump in start of her tale ever go away she looks 100 % healthy now shes getting the proper heating and much neeed care can anyone answer my question please thanx xxx

@ Janell: If you feed the dragon too many worms they sometimes wont eat for a while, at least from my experience it happened to my beardie, though i think it was from the super meal worm i fed her.
